Oculoplasty refers to surgical procedures that address defects, injuries, or abnormalities in the eye and its surrounding structures, including the eyelids, tear ducts, and the orbit (eye socket). This field of surgery includes treatments for conditions such as drooping eyelids (ptosis), eyelid tumors, tear duct blockages, and reconstructive surgery after trauma or disease.
Oculoplastic surgeons also perform cosmetic procedures, such as eyelid lifts (blepharoplasty), to improve the appearance of the eyes. The goal of oculoplasty is not only to restore function, such as improving vision and tear drainage, but also to enhance the aesthetic appearance and comfort of the eyes.
